We begin Saturday night, May 15 with a Welcome Reception, 5 - 7 p.m. Classes start Sunday May 16, and will continue daily through Friday, May 21. Coffee and sustenance will be on hand.

Workshops run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., when most Girona restaurants open for lunch.

Between 4 and 5:30 there will be talks by faculty and guests.

The final day of the retreat, Saturday May 22, is set aside for conferences with faculty.

Workshops are limited to 8 participants.

The Venue: Workshops and social events will be held in a house that dates back to the 1600s. Reimagined by the architect Anna Noguera, the building integrates the old and the new with clean, modernist lines and the rough textures of ancient stone. Classes are held indoors and in the outdoor spaces. A pool can be used by students.

Girona is an ideal location for writing informed by a sense of place. The city was a Roman fortress in the 1st century B.C., then conquered by the Moors and later by Charlemagne. Girona's historic center is home to one of Europe's best-preserved medieval Jewish quarters, including a museum with powerful exhibits. The town remains an intellectual hub with nearly a dozen bookstores and truly excellent cafes. A Mecca for cyclists, Girona is small enough to avoid the tourist crowds of Barcelona but large enough to boast excellent restaurants, including three-star Michelin El Celler de Can Roca. Girona is also the site of thermal baths used since the 11th century. Several have been renovated and offer massage.

We are not providing on-site lodging, but we are happy to offer recommendations and assistance in booking nearby hotels, hostels, and AirBnB rentals in Girona.

Accessibility

Classes are held in a large renovated house in the oldest section of the town. There are 150 steps that you have to climb to get there. It is possibile to book accomodations within a few hundred feet of the house that don't require climbing stairs and taxis are cheap and plentiful. Let us know if you have concerns. Girona is generally accommodating. Please let us know in advance about any special conditions or requirements so we can best support your participation.

If you have allergies or dietary needs, please notify us ahead of time. WTWW will make every effort to accommodate you; however, we cannot guarantee that all dietary restrictions can be fully safeguarded. Please consult your doctor or nutritionist if you have concerns.

Health Policy

We do not require proof of vaccination, but we expect all participants attending our communal workshop environment to be fully vaccinated with up-to-date vaccines. Cancelation policy

Full refund if you cancel before March 1, 2027 minus 10 percent.

Our teachers will be available for one-on-one manuscript consultations. There is an additional cost for these sessions of $150 with a 15-page maximum. If you feel strongly that it will take more pages to understand the project, you can discuss this with the teacher. It's a good idea to write a paragraph or two about the nature of the project you're working on. These sessions can be scheduled during the workshop. We also are leaving a three-hour window on the final day.
